How much does “Zero to Dangerous” flow training cost?
I discovered flow trainer Steven Kotler’s course Zero to Dangerous but I could not find the price anywhere on the flow research collective website. So I did a little digging to find out “How much does zero to dangerous cost?”
For those of you who don’t know…
Steven Kotler is a podcaster, book author and trainer
A peak performance expert, his books include:
- The Art of the Impossible
- Stealing fire
- The Rise of Superhuman
- Tomorrowland.
I’m embarrassed to say I had not know about his extensive work until a few weeks ago. I know his name (from mentions) but that was about all.
I only found the site when I saw a coach I was connecting with on linkedIn listed ‘flow trainer’ as a qualification. This piqued my interest. Those that know me, know that “flow” is something I am deeply passionate about. So passionate that earlier this year I created my own program to teach creators, makers, coders how to enter this superhuman state of productivity. Unlike the flow research collective, my research started with just me solving my own problem. You can read my story through discussion in this page (TL;DR “I used myself as a lab rat” until I rediscovered ‘flow’ was missing in my life and worked out exactly what is needed to activate it on demand).
Reviews: Is “Zero to Dangerous” worth the ticket price?
Before I answer that question. Let’s look at reviews and claims.
Some big names have given rave reviews:
- McKinsey found a 500% increase in productivity by executives who regularly access flow states.
- Advanced Brain Monitoring & DARPA found subjects to have a 490% increase in skill acquisition.
- The University of Sydney found subjects to have a 430% increase in creative problem solving!
- Harvard found subjects to have three days of heightened creativity after the flow state.
“If you’re someone who’s got big goals and an entrepreneurial mindset, this will radically expand what you’re capable of achieving in life. These cutting-edge tools will help you trigger flow states consistently so you can spend all day in that hyper productive zone. The changes I made are allowing me to write my next book in a fraction of the time!”
Vishen Lakhiani Founder & CEO, Mindvalley, Author of The Code of the Extraordinary Mind
Personally, I have not gone through the zero to dangerous course. Yet, I can vouch for these claims about the flow-state in general. Being able to induce the flow state at will is an incredibly powerful skill to have. Superman, superhuman are all fair descriptions of how you feel when in flow. You can achieve more, faster as the the website says.
Its’ important to note that these claims dot pointed above are about the flow state. Not specifically the zero to dangerous course. Rightly so, the flow research collective state “If you take take our training seriously, you’ll get serious results.” I’d second that point:
- the flow state is worth pursuing. It is absolutely worth the cost in time and for training!
- you do have to put in the work – you cannot train yourself in a day! It takes weeks.
In summary, training takes knowledge, skill and time and there is a cost.
The hidden cost of not doing it (Opportunity cost)
One of the direct reviews of Zero to Dangerous makes this point:
“If I had taken this workshop ten years ago, it would have saved me so much time, and money, and pain and aggravation. I’m pissed I didn’t do this earlier! It’ll probably end up adding millions of dollars to my career.”
Tucker Max 4x NYT Bestselling Author & CEO of SCRIBE
I too second this claim. I experienced flow easily early in my life. Too easy! so easy that I took it for granted. I’d started my own consultancy company during university. My first scalable startup just two years after graduating. I was “superhuman”; in the office at 5am churning out more code in the first few hours before anyone else even arrived at the office; and more than each of my developers would each write in an entire day!
Then “life happened”. I did not know what was missing. I could not put my finger on it. It took me far too long to figure it out. 10, maybe 15 years had passed. It was not sudden, it happened gradually. I blamed getting older figured I’d got a bit slower, too busy, not focused. I tried every productivity method that I could find in a book, podcast, app or tool. Until one day I got it back! Just a taste. But I lost it again! … I vowed to get it back and never lose it. That is how I came to discover my method and put together my course.
What do you get for the price?
- Eight weeks of teaching (via App)
- PhD level coaching – one on one.
- Lifetime group coaching & community.
The community aspect is essential. I too have strived to make my programs’ content stand alone however, there are always going to be scenarios or cases that need unique input.
Eight weeks is a long time! I’m not a PhD level psychologist or neuroscientist. However, I’ve dived deeply enough into both of these domains to turn over the right stones to uncover the crucial components relevant to unlocking flow. I did it to myself, done it for others and created a framework to self identify these blockages. These topics are very important but I navigate you though at the right level of detail. I teach this in 7 lessons. If you are struggling you also have me and the community to help.
Back to the question “What does zero to dangerous cost”?
So what does zero to dangerous cost? Would you believe USD$5,000… Yep! I was floored!
What does the “Flow Trainer Accelerator” cost? More like USD$9,900! Ay caramba!
Please verify these prices for yourself. Go through the questionnaire on their website. The process takes a little time so in summary; all the questions will lead to be confirming that you absolutely NEED this course and it will change your life and 10x your income. Then you’ll need to put your phone number and a consultant will call you to go through and deliver you the ‘bomb’ but by that stage you will have confirmed back that you must do it and grab the last available spot.
This is all fine if you are an ivy league graduate and the trainer name and PhD coaches are what you are after to add to your CV. Go for it!
Would I personally pay for it?
Flow is definitely worth every cent of the price – there is no question!
However, I also believe that Flow is a gift we all have inside us and this price is over cooking it a little. So what are the alternatives? Like me lose 10-15 years? I don’t recommend it. Read 47 books, try every app and every productivity app or tip you come by? I’ve also been there and done that. Yes all those things contributed but in the end I found flow and how to activate it by being a ‘hacker’; I used everything I had read and reverse engineered my mind. That is, I worked out what inputs arrived at the output goal: the flow state. By using myself as a “lab rat” I devised frameworks anyone can use right away to turn on the flow state at will.
I’m running my course at this moment with a group of like minded coaches, business owners and side gig hustlers. They are learning my method to activate the flow state on demand. I’ll soon be offering the same to you.
PS: In case you are wondering. My course will be about 1/10th of the price of zero to dangerous 🙂
